Weavers Needle: The Superstition Mountains

Hiking the Superstition Mountains?

The Superstition Mountains are one of our favorite mountains ranges. Getting their name from local tribes, these mountains are famous for their dramatic rugged peaks, canyons, and unique rock formations.

One of these famous rock formations is called Weavers Needle. Hikers and rock climbers alike travel to see this unique formation approximately 2.5 miles from the parking lot.

If you’re just looking for a quick hike to see Weavers Needle, you can stop at Fremont Saddle for a quick snack with a view. Remember to leave no trace 😉

The Trail

Our favorite route was Fremont Saddle via Peralta Trail. This short hike is easy to complete at 4.6 miles out-and-back with only 1,366 feet elevation gain.

If you’re looking for a longer hike, you can take Weavers Needle Loop Trail that takes you 12.5 miles around the rock. This trail has 2,818 feet of elevation gain, so bring lots of water!

Camping

Camping at Lone Tree

If you turn right at the top of Fremont Saddle and follow the trail for approximately another 0.25 miles, you’ll find a single tree nicknamed the Lone Tree.

Anyone looking for a more solitude experience can camp here at no cost.

We left on a Saturday afternoon getting to the trailhead only a few short hours later. Once we set up camp, we sat and enjoyed the view and played Yahtzee while we waited for the sunset.

We were the only people on top of the mountain! We recommend staying up late to see the Milky Way (check what time it’s visible depending on what season you’re camping) since the park is a dark park.

To complete the perfect weekend, wake up early for sunrise and enjoy a beautiful morning in the mountains.
